What Happens to a Computer When It's Recycled?

Today as never before selecting the right computer recycler is imperative. With increasing regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency and federal legislation Sarbanes Oxley, Gramm Leach Bliley, or HIPPA you need to make the best choice possible in how you recycle your old computer.

When Surplus Technology Solutions, receives computers or e-waste to be recycled, we begin by triaging the equipment to identify the type of equipment, determine its age, and assess its condition. The computers are sorted by processor type and brought to our breakdown area for the recycling process to begin.

Clients of Surplus Technology Solutions may chose from several options for data destruction based on their security requirements.  Surplus Technology offers onsite Hard Drive shredding at the client location as well as offsite Hard Drive Shredding. If data destruction needs to be performed as part of the computer recycling process it occurs now. If offsite shredding is the chosen option, all hard drives are removed, serialized and recorded for the certificate of destruction.  If the computer has no requirement for drive serialization, the computer is moved along the line for final breakdown

Further processing consists of accumulating the various types of materials, i.e. plastic, metals, and circuit boards, memory, batteries, heat sinks etc. and sending them to a smelting facility where they are shredded into bit sized pieces then melted down. Metals and plastics are recycled for future use and circuit boards have precious metals extracted to save the environment from costly and environmentally harmful mining operations. When the job is complete, the appropriate reports and certificates of recycling and destruction are sent to the client for their permanent records.

Surplus Technology Solutions provides free onsite recycling for corporate clients based in MA, NH and RI. We offer value added services such as onsite hard drive shredding, certificates of destruction and peace of mind that your e-waste is handled in a proper fashion!  Visit us online call today
